Africa stands at a crossroads. Crippled by unsustainable debt, the continent faces a crisis that threatens the well-being of millions. But on February 12, 2025, at 12 PM East Africa Time (EAT), history will be made as the Jubilee 2025 Debt Cancellation Campaign is unveiled in a historic press briefing.
Led by Bishop Charles Kasonde, Chairman of AMECEA, and supported by a coalition of faith-based and justice organizations, this campaign is a bold call for economic justice, debt cancellation, and a fairer global financial system.
Why This Matters
7 African nations are already in debt distress, with many more on the brink.
Debt servicing costs are draining resources from critical sectors like healthcare, education, and sustainable development.
Despite the success of the Jubilee 2000 Campaign, which canceled $100 billion in debt, Africa remains trapped in an unjust financial system that prioritizes creditors over people.
This is not just an economic issue—it is a moral and social justice imperative. Inspired by Pope Francis’ call for a Jubilee Year, the Jubilee 2025 Campaign demands:
1. Debt cancellation for African nations.
2. Global financial reform to create a fairer system.
3. Accountability to break the chains of economic oppression.
This is your chance to be part of a defining moment in Africa’s fight for justice. Your voice can amplify the call for a debt-free future and a more equitable world.

Who We Are
The Jubilee 2025 Africa Debt Cancellation Campaign is spearheaded by the Jesuit Justice and Ecology Network Africa (JENA), in collaboration with AMECEA, Caritas Africa, SECAM, and the Jesuit Hakimani Center. Together, we are building a global movement to free Africa from unjust debt and pave the way for sustainable development.
Why Now?
The time to act is now. Without urgent action, debt will continue to strip Africa of its resources, leaving millions without access to basic services. This campaign is about more than debt relief—it’s about justice, dignity, and hope for a brighter future.
Be Part of the Change
Join us on February 12, 2025, as we launch this historic campaign. Together, we can demand a world where Africa is free to invest in its people, its future, and its potential.
Your voice matters. Let’s make history together. Africa’s future is on the line. The world must listen. To learn more about the Jubilee 2025 Africa Coalition see website [HERE]

If you wish to make a donation by direct bank transfer please contact Fr Paul Hamill SJ treasurer@jesuits.africa. Fr Paul will get in touch with you about the best method of transfer for you and share account details with you. Donations can be one-off gifts or of any frequency; for example, you might wish to become a regular monthly donor of small amounts; that sort of reliable income can allow for very welcome forward planning in the development of the Society’s works in Africa and Madagascar.
Often it is easier to send a donation to an office within your own country and Fr Paul can advise on how that might be done. In some countries this kind of giving can also be recognised for tax relief and the necessary receipts will be issued.
