The President of JCAM is appointed by the Superior General of the Society of Jesus and entrusted with the direction and leadership of the JCAM Common Works and Centres and to assist with the realisation of the mission of the Society of Jesus in Africa and Madagascar. He is assisted by a Socius, who is normally the Secretary of the Conference, a Treasurer and other members of staff who together form the JCAM administration.
A Jesuit with experience in apostolic leadership and in service of the people of God in various ministries in the Society of Jesus. Born in July 1968, he joined the Jesuits in September 1987 and took his final vows in the Society in April 2006. He has been a Priest since July 2002.
Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus appointed Father John Kobina Ghansah, SJ as Provincial Superior of the North-West Africa Province (ANW) on 17 March 2023. He entered the Jesuit Novitiate, Benin City, Nigeria, in 1984. In 1996, he was ordained a priest in Tema, Ghana.
Prior to his appointment he was the Socius to the Provincial of the ANW Province, as well as the Superior of St. Ignatius House (the Provincial’s Residence), Lagos, Nigeria.
Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus appointed Fr. Fabien Gasigwa, SJ as the new Regional Superior of the Rwanda-Burundi Region. Fr. Fabien Gasigwa served as Socius to the Regional Superior. He joined the Society in 1993 and was ordained in 2006.
Before becoming assistant to the Regional Superior, he worked as treasurer and as superior of the Christus Community in Rwanda from 2012 to 2015.
On July 14, 2020, Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus appointed Fr. Kizito Kiyimba, SJ as Provincial of Eastern Africa Province. He joined the Society of Jesus on July 30, 1991. He was ordained to the priesthood on August 5, 2000, and made final vows on December 21, 2013.
Prior to his appointment Fr. Kiyimba served as the vice-Chancellor of Arrupe Jesuit University in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus appointed Fr. Leonard Chiti, SJ as the first Provincial of the Southern Africa Province, with effect from 25th March 2021. This new Province will be made up of the former Zambia-Malawi Province (ZAM), the former Region of South Africa (SAF), now including Eswatini, Botswana, Namibia, and Lesotho and the former Province of Zimbabwe- Mozambique (ZIM).
Fr. Chiti joined the Society on 2nd July 1993 and was ordained to the priesthood on 25th June 2005. Prior to his new position, he served as Provincial of the Zambia-Malawi Province, (ZAM).
Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus appointed Fr. Solofonirina Jocelyn Rabeson, SJ as Provincial of the Province of Madagascar. He entered the Society of Jesus at the Province novitiate in 1987. In 1998, he was ordained a priest in Antananarivo, and he took his final vows in Nairobi in December 2011.
Prior to his appointment he was the Rector of the Institut de théologie de la Compagnie de Jésus (ITCJ) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
On November 6, 2019, Father Arturo Sosa, the Superior General of the Society of Jesus appointed Fr. Rigobert Musenge Kyungu, SJ as the new Provincial for Central Africa Province (ACE).
Fr. Kyungu was, until 2018, Secretary for the Assistancy of Africa and Madagascar.
Father Mathieu Ndomba, SJ is from Congo Brazzaville and was appointed by Father General Arturo Sosa on 29 August 2019 as the new provincial of the Jesuit province of West Africa. He was born on 22 November 1968, entered the Society of Jesus on 8 October 1989, and was ordained on 13 July 2003. Fr Ndomba pronounced his final vows on 27 April 2013.
Prior to his appointment, has been serving as bursar of the Province, as well as being a member of the Investment Board and Superior of the community of Libermann College.

The first joint meeting of English and French-speaking Major Superiors of Africa was held in 1970 in Lusaka, Zambia. This was the historical foundation of the Jesuit Conference of Major Superiors of Africa and Madagascar (JESAM).
In July 2018, after many years of being JESAM, the Conference was renamed JCAM – “Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar”
In the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM) there are currently six provinces and one region. There are many Jesuit communities and works within these provinces and region, each one usually headed by a “superior” or “director of work.”
These provinces and region of JCAM are organized into a Conference, to promote common goals and oversee common projects, although each has its own administrative headquarters.
